TL;DR

PHP patched two remote-code-execution bugs, CVSS up to 9.2, affecting roughly 70% of the web's sites, after a disclosure leak forced an early release on October 21 and let exploits circulate before the fix shipped; patch now. Wiz Research and OpenAI's models found and verified the flaws, pushing OpenAI toward a formal coordinated-disclosure framework for AI-scale bug hunting. Separately, Meta raised 2026 AI capex to $135-145 billion and said its Muse agent passed 10 million users.

Claude Code v2.1.307 (Oct 21) added a claude_code.safety_event OpenTelemetry signal firing whenever a tool call is stopped or flagged by permission rules, auto mode, safety checks, hooks, or the sandbox - one release after v2.1.305 shipped a Linux sandbox flag whose own changelog warns it can bypass file protections. The long view

A year ago, Google called its Big Sleep agent finding one exploitable SQLite bug, patched the same day with no public exposure, AI's first real-world vulnerability discovery outside a test sandbox. On October 21, Wiz Research found two PHP flaws hitting roughly 70% of the web's sites, with a separate researcher reproducing one using OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol, and a leak forced exploits into the open before the patch shipped. The pace pushed OpenAI to propose a formal five-stage disclosure framework, with CISA and a White House cyber unit on call, because it expects findings like this to keep rising. If this holds, AI-found bugs move from an occasional headline to a volume problem the old one-bug-at-a-time disclosure pipeline can't absorb.
