OpenCode confirmed stolen keys from its Oct 17 breach are already running up real charges, some over $1,000 - rotate yours now. Microsoft declared frontier models "cannot be trusted" and shipped its own agent-monitoring tools instead of relying on labs' own safeguards. Separately, Jack Clark told the IMF a lab-driven scientific acceleration has already begun.

Anthropic's policy chief told the IMF directly that an AI-driven scientific acceleration is already underway, not approaching. #
Jack Clark's Oct 17 lecture, published on Import AI Oct 19, cites Humanity's Last Exam rising from 8% at its January 2025 launch to 67.7% now, FrontierMath from 2% to 94%, and Anthropic's own modeling putting 2030 US GDP near $44 trillion under full-autonomy assumptions - his own argument, not an independently verified fact. Meta's 816-billion-parameter Muse Spark Open shipped Oct 15 with Unsloth's own GGUF quants already live - Unsloth credits "day-zero access" from Meta. Cloudflare gave bartowski the same head start on its Clef model Oct 7. Two releases, one new pattern, demonstrated rather than predicted. Unsloth, Muse Spark Open quants
A widely shared claim that modern neural nets are mostly cleanly interpretable is already drawing contrary evidence, not just hype pushback. #
Zvi Mowshowitz's Oct 19 review calls Nick Cammarata's essay - finding about 90% of Qwen3-32B's neurons have one main job - "an important update" but overstated: a commenter found the paper's own showcase neuron also fires on the Tornado web framework, which Zvi calls "a very bad sign." Neel Nanda and Eliezer Yudkowsky both call the result real but far from solving alignment. Zvi, I Can See Everything

The long view
A year ago, enterprises adopting AI agents mostly relied on safeguards the labs built into their own products - permission prompts, sandboxing, safety evals Anthropic and OpenAI ran and graded themselves. On October 19, Microsoft rejected that outright: security chief Hayete Gallot wrote that "frontier models, regardless of their origin, cannot be trusted," and shipped Guardian Agents and a Defender feature policing 60-plus agent types - including rivals' Claude Code and Codex - while joining Nvidia's 100-plus-company Open Agent Safety Platform. If this holds, policing AI agents becomes a business sold by whoever doesn't make the model, not a feature the vendor bundles in.
