Anthropic committed 5% of its shares - more than 20% combined with earlier pledges - to a new Public Benefit Fund ahead of its IPO, the same week it disclosed that junior technical hiring has fallen from 27% to 9% since early 2025 while its AI agents now work six hours for every human hour. Anthropic is also asking law firms how its agents should negotiate deals on users' behalf.
Signals
Agent guardrails in major developer tools keep failing to classic, pre-AI bug classes, not novel attacks #
Johann Rehberger disclosed Oct 13 that a trailing dot in a filename let Visual Studio's and SQL Server Management Studio's Copilot bypass path validation and rewrite protected configuration files - Windows silently strips the dot on write, so the check never saw the real target. Rehberger reported it Aug 4; Microsoft confirmed it Sept 16 and patched it the day he published, rating it CVSS 8.8, with no bounty paid. Rehberger, Visual Studio Copilot and SSMS RCE
Beyond Rehberger, it was a quiet week for signals - most roster activity this week repeated ground the last several briefs already covered.

The long view
In early 2025, about 27% of Anthropic's new technical hires were junior engineers - a normal ladder, with coding agents still mostly a productivity add-on. Anthropic's own report, published Oct 16, puts that share at 9% now, with agents logging six hours of work for every human hour and median meeting time up 20% over the same year. If this holds, the entry-level rung into frontier AI labs keeps narrowing even as the people left spend more of their week coordinating, not building: judgment and context become the scarce skill, not raw throughput.
